Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

On 23 November 2011, Dakar, Senegal hosted the Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development aimed at consolidating the Rabat Process, consolidating the achievements in the implementation of the three-year cooperation program adopted in Paris and adopting a new strategy for the years 2012 - 2014.  Peter Widermann, ICMPD Director General, issued a statement at the event. Meeting of High Level Representatives Preparatory to the 3rd Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

The event, which took place on 18 October 2011 in Paris, was attended by ninety high level representatives and national focal points from the partner countries and organisations. The aim of the meeting was to feed into preparations for the Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development, to be held in Dakar on 23 November 2011. Participants discussed the agenda of the ministerial conference and the content of the future declaration and cooperation programme to be adopted by the ministers in Dakar. Meeting of Experts on Civil Registry

The meeting of Experts on Civil Registry “Improving Civil Status Registration Systems and Combating document Fraud”, co-organized by Poland and Burkina Faso, took place in Warsaw, Poland from 9 - 11 May 2011. The overall objective of this meeting of experts was to address the issue of civil registration and document fraud in an international mobility framework, exchange expertise and best practices, as well as formulate proposals for transnational cooperation which will strengthen the relevant capacities and exchange of information. Meeting of Experts on the Social Rights of Migrants and their Portability under a Transnational Framework

The overall objective of this meeting of experts on the social rights of migrants, which took place from 31 March - 1 April 2011 in Rabat, was to identify best practices in the area of social rights of migrants, particuarly the portability of social rights.The meeting was based on four axes: 1) Presentation of the context setter in Africa and Europe 2) Presentation of concepts regarding social rights, social protection and social security and its portability across international borders under a migration and mobility context 3) Identification of elements required to foster a transnational system of social security rights and its potential contribution to the development of countries of origin and 4)  Presentation of case studies and practices concerning portability mechanisms of social security benefits at a bilateral, regional and multilateral level.
