ICMPD
The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), established in 1993 by Austria and Switzerland, is an international organisation that works in migration-related fields. Although ICMPD has a European basis, it carries out its activities throughout the world, including in Europe, Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East and South America. Through its six Competence Centres, ICMPD provides its 15 Member States and numerous partners with in-depth knowledge and expertise in dealing with the phenomena of migration. It does so through using a holistic 3-pillar approach: research, capacity building and migration dialogues.
2013 is an important year for ICMPD, as it marks the 20th anniversary of the organisation. To celebrate ICMPD's major achievements and look back on its successful journey over the last 20 years, ICMPD will hold several events, including a key event in Vienna on 7 November 2013. This event will bring together high-level government officials, practitioners, eminent scholars, as well as representatives from international organisations, EU institutions and the media. The overarching theme of the celebration will be "migration governance in the past - visions for the future". This theme is also the focus of the project "Ten Observations on the Future of Migration in Europe - Costs, Benefits and Policy Responses" that ICMPD will carry out in 2013. The project will be the backbone of the anniversary, providing a basis for the 20th anniversary commemorative publication produced in late 2013 and for the key event in November.
