Assessment of the Implementation and Impact of the "Scientific Visa" Package (Researchers Directive 2005/71/EC and Recommendation 2005/761/EC)
Objective: The comparative study aimed at assessing the implementation and impact of the ‘Scientific Visa Package’ (the Researchers Directive 2005/71/EC and the Recommendation 2005/761/EC) in the 25 EU Member States bound by Directive 2005.
- Analyse the institutional set-up and the procedures for the practical implementation of national legislation transposing Directive 2005/71/EC
- Evaluate the impact of the Directive in relation to quantitative and qualitative aspects
- Identify potential difficulties in implementation and suggestions for improvement
- Identify best practices in the implementation of Directive 2005/71/EC at the national and EU levels

Intra-European Workforce Flows – Qualitative and Quantitative Findings
Objective: ICMPD supported the “GDISC project on Managed Migration” by elaborating a comparative study on “Intra-European Workforce Flows – Qualitative and Quantitative Findings”.
Summary: The General Directors’ Immigration Services Conference (GDISC) network initiates, coordinates and improves practical cooperation between the Immigration Services of its 33 Member States (The 27 EU Member States, Candidate Countries - Croatia, Turkey and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland). The purpose of the study was to provide a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the size, structure and dynamics of intra-European workforce flows after the two enlargement rounds of 2004 and 2007 in the 27 EU Member States.

“EXTRA - Exchange Tool for Migration-related Analyses and Prognoses Among European States”
Objective: ICMPD, together with its partners, implemented the project “EXTRA - Exchange Tool For Migration-related Analyses and Prognoses Among European States”. The project aimed at 1) establishing a consistent network of officials and experts engaged in the field of analysis of migration-related data and the subsequent elaboration of prognoses in European states 2) developing and implementing a jointly accessible tool allowing for exchange and common use of analyses and prognoses in the migration field (website/database with restricted access).

Integration Agreements and Voluntary Measures
Objective: The study aimed to shed light on the differences and similarities of European integration programmes reflected in the underlying legislation, objectives, concepts, requirements and implementation, as exemplified by the approaches taken in Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Based on the analysis of identified best practices, the study provided policy recommendations for the improvement of integration programmes.
Summary: The first part of the study analysed compulsory integration contracts, programmes and agreements and voluntary integration measures for newly arrived immigrants in EU Member States. The second part analysed whether the resulting legal regulations met the requirements and objectives, where shortfalls and deficiencies could be identified,and which measures proved to be the most effective. The third phase involved the evaluation of these programmes, the comparison of experiences in related topics and voluntary programmes were translated into applicable short-, medium- and long-term solutions for the improvement of integration programmes at the national and European level.

Integrationsportal
Objective: The project Austrian Integration Platform (“integrationsportal.at”) was designed as a website/database to provide extensive information concerning the main aspects of asylum, refugee and integration policy in Austria.
Summary: It served both as an information medium for experts working in the area and for recognized refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. The portal consisted of three main parts: 1) legal section, containing well-structured, ready-to-use information on Austrian asylum law, aliens law, labour law, integration agreement etc., 2) portal section providing access to information and links to relevant sites and 3) database section providing an overall view of topic-related projects in Austria.

Managing Diversity Through Culture – MADICU
Objective: The project aimed at improving intercultural cooperation in enterprises by drawing on the concept of “Diversity Management”.
Summary: On the basis of five case studies and group interviews with migrant employees in selected enterprises, theatre pieces were written and presented in the enterprises. In addition measures accounting for the internal diversity were implemented.
