MIEUX

is a joint EC-ICMPD initiative that aims at enhancing the capacities of partner countries to better address irregular migration and mixed migration flows as part of a comprehensive approach to migration management. The Initiative has a global scope and complements current EC mid- and long-term migration cooperation initiatives by implementing quick-reaction short-term capacity building actions.
MIEUX supports relevant ministries and bodies responsible for comprehensively managing migration in partner countries (European Neighbourhood countries, as well as countries in South Africa, Latin America, Asia and Central Asia, the Middle East and the African Caribbean and the Pacific). For activities with a regional impact, the relevant regional and/or sub-regional authority can also be supported. Interested countries are encouraged to send an email to the ICMPD MIEUX Team in Brussels requesting technical assistance in areas of migration management where they have a particular need.
Outcomes: To this date, 42 requests for technical assistance from national administrations and regional organisations covering both eastern and southern dimensions have been processed. 56 experts from 19 EU Member States national administrations and covering different areas of expertise have been engaged in MIEUX technical assistance actions.
From the perspective of partner countries, overall results of the MIEUX project include:
- Improved understanding and knowledge-base at expert and policy levels in the beneficiary countries, in particular in areas of migration management
- Enhanced capacities of partner countries to effectively manage migration and, in particular, to prevent and manage irregular immigration
- Confidence and trust built in beneficiary countries regarding cooperation with the EU and EU Member States in the area of migration, also for the benefit of larger-scale and longer-term projects
- Cooperation and information exchange dialogues and processes strengthened at the national and regional level
- Improved capacities to craft, implement and assess national migration policy and normative frameworks responding to strategic and political objectives
