Office of the Director General

The ICMPD Director General since January, 2005 is Gottfried Zürcher. Mr Zürcher, who is a Swiss citizen, first joined ICMPD in 2002 as Deputy Director General under Jonas Widgren. After Mr Widgren's sudden death in August 2004, Mr Zürcher was Acting Director General until his appointment as Director General was approved by the Steering Group Meeting.

Before joining ICMPD, Mr Zürcher worked for the Swiss Federal Office for Refugees, as Head of the Swiss Asylum Section, Senior Legal Advisor and finally as Vice Director. Mr Zürcher is a Barrister-at-Law.

The Office of the Director General also includes the Secretariat and the section for External Relations.
