ICMPD Around the Globe: ICMPD Director General Spindelegger delivers keynote at the Danish Foreign Policy Society
ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger
The Danish Foreign Policy Society in cooperation with the Austrian Embassy in Denmark and the Labor Union 3F, organised a seminar entitled “Towards a common EU policy on Migration and Refugees” in order to shed light on the issues of EU migration and refugees held on 21 March in Copenhagen.
On this occasion, ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger was invited to deliver the keynote speech. He focussed on the issues of intra-European policies and global cooperation, stating that “while regulations and directives forming the Common System are currently under review, there is still the need to improve responsibility and burden-sharing among member states, but the arena deciding over success or failure of these migration policies will be the global one.” Based on the conclusions derived from the Vienna Migration Conference 2016
, he named three main areas that the global community needs to be jointly working on, summing them up under the three “Ps”: protection, prosperity and partnership.
The keynote provided a solid foundation for the following statements and discussion. Closing remarks, giving a summary of the current key issues were made by Ernst-Peter Brezovsky, the Austrian Ambassador to Denmark. Download the keynote speech by Michael Spindelegger here.
