Project News: Empowering female governmental experts working on migration through capacity-building – MOBILAZE workshop

10 March 2017

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the EU-funded MOBILAZE project offered a special workshop for female employees working in the field of migration in the Azerbaijan state institutions and other partner organisations to address migration and gender issues in Baku on 3 March.

The purpose of the one-day workshop was to introduce a variety of approaches and trends when addressing migration and gender issues from the theoretical perspective. Another aim was to discuss the situation of Azerbaijani female emigrants and returnees, as well as non-Azerbaijani female immigrants in the country.

The meeting was opened by Ambassador Malena Mard, Head of the EU Delegation in Azerbaijan, who stressed that “…gender equality and women's empowerment is a constant EU priority.” It was important for her to stress that it was not only on International Women’s Day to address women’s empowerment but to promote equal opportunities each single day of the year.

The event not only contributed to the professional growth of the Azerbaijani female experts working in the migration field, but equipped them with understanding and knowledge on how specific needs of women migrants should be addressed in order to make migration to, in and from Azerbaijan better.
