Thematic Meeting on Asylum and International Protection

Date: 15-16 June 2015

Location: Rabat, Morocco

Description: This meeting was organised under the co-chairmanship of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Spain. As the first Thematic Meeting since the adoption of the Rome Programme, it explored questions related to the new pillar of the Rabat Process: Promoting International Protection. More than 100 participants from partner countries and organisations took part in the meeting, with the aim to identify approaches to strengthen and develop national protection systems in view of a better regional cooperation in this area. 4th Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

Date: 27 November 2014

Location: Rome, Italy

Description: Hosted by Italy, the Conference took place under Italy's presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) and was presided by the Ministers of Foreign and Home Affairs. Senegal, as host country of the previous ministerial conference, was honorary president. With the adoption of the Rome Declaration and Rome Programme, the Conference defined the Rabat Process' strategic framework, outlining the political priorities for 20152017. The 4th phase of the Rabat Process will see the introduction of a fourth pillar on international protection, highlighting the dialogue partners' commitment to pursuing a balanced approach to migration issues. Senior Officials Meeting

Description: A senior officials meeting (SOM) took place to prepare for the Fourth Euro-African Ministerial Conference in Rome. The meeting provided a forum to finalise the text of the Rome Declaration and Rome Programme.

 

Senior Officials Meeting (SOM): Preparatory to the Fourth Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

Description: This meeting took place in Rabat under the co-chairmanship of the Kingdom of Morocco and Italy. It was attended by approximately 120 high-level representatives and national focal points from partner countries and organisations. In the run-up to the Fourth Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development, taking place on 27 November 2014 in Rome, the aim of the SOM was to discuss the content of the future political declaration. Moreover, the meeting set the stage for the implementation of the next phase of the Rabat Process.

Thematic Meeting on Migrants in a Crisis Context

Location: Paris, France

Description: The aim of this meeting was to address the topic of migrants in a crisis context and identify the mechanisms that may contribute to strengthening cooperation and to developing synergies between migration and development in a crisis and post-crisis period in the Rabat Process region. Thematic Meeting on Border Management

Date: 5-6 November 2013

Location: Madrid, Spain

Description: The Rabat Process Steering Committee has identified border management as one of the priorities of the third phase of the Rabat Process, given the numerous challenges in this matter in the entire region, particularly in the framework of regional integration processes. The Rabat Process offers its partner countries a unique platform for exchange and cooperation in order to reinforce border management, promote efficient cooperation between states and to exchange good practices. Meeting on the Cross-cutting Topic “Strengthening Evidence-based Policymaking in the Field of Migration”

Location: Dakar, Senegal

Description: The first meeting is directly related to objective 10 of the Dakar Strategy: To base policy consistency and coordination on acquiring and sharing information. High-Level Officials Meeting: Follow-up to the Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

Date: 6 June 2012

Location: Madrid, Spain

Description: This meeting was held in Madrid on under the co-presidency of Spain and Morocco. The event was attended by eighty high-level representatives and national focal points from partner countries and organisations. Ongoing and new initiatives within the framework of the Dakar Strategy 20122014 were discussed. In addition, priority actions and good practices were presented and a road map was endorsed. Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

The Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development aimed at consolidating the Rabat Process, consolidating the achievements in the implementation of the three-year cooperation program adopted in Paris and adopting a new strategy for the years 20122014.  Peter Widermann, ICMPD Director General, issued a statement at the event. Meeting of High Level Representatives Preparatory to the 3rd Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development

Description:
The event was attended by 90 high level representatives and national focal points from the partner countries and organisations. The aim of the meeting was to feed into preparations for the Third Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development, held in Dakar on 23 November 2011. Participants discussed the agenda of the ministerial conference and the content of the future declaration and cooperation programme to be adopted by the ministers in Dakar. Meeting of Experts on Civil Registry

Description: The
Meeting of Experts on Civil Registry “Improving Civil Status Registration Systems and Combating Document Fraud” was co-organised by Poland and Burkina Faso. The overall objective of this meeting of experts was to address the issue of civil registration and document fraud in an international mobility framework, exchange expertise and best practices, as well as formulate proposals for transnational cooperation which will strengthen the relevant capacities and exchange of information. Meeting of Experts on the Social Rights of Migrants and their Portability under a Transnational Framework

Description: The overall objective of this meeting of experts on the social rights of migrants was to identify best practices in the area of social rights of migrants, particularly the portability of social rights.The meeting was based on four axes: 1) presentation of the context setter in Africa and Europe 2) presentation of concepts regarding social rights, social protection and social security and its portability across international borders under a migration and mobility context 3) identification of elements required to foster a transnational system of social security rights and its potential contribution to the development of countries of origin and 4) presentation of case studies and practices concerning portability mechanisms of social security benefits at a bilateral, regional and multilateral level.
