UN High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development General Debate

The Director General of ICMPD, Mr Peter Widermann, spoke at the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development General Debate, UN General Assembly 68th Session, which took place in New York, USA, on 34 May 2013. In his speech, Mr Widermann urged all stakeholders to recognise migration as "an enabler of global development" and to include it in the post-2015 development agenda currently being developed. He also argued that migration can best advance development when the mobility of people is facilitated, when integration policies are inclusive and foster migrants' participation in society and when border management systems facilitate the movement of people and goods while keeping the borders safe and secure.

Second Informal Meeting of Brdo Process Interior Ministers

The Director General of ICMPD, Mr Peter Widermann, spoke at the Second Informal Meeting of Brdo Process Interior Ministers, which took place in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, on 22 May 2013. In his speech, Mr Widermann spoke about the Brdo Process discussion paper on visa liberalisation and mixed migration flows, as well as recent developments in migration in South Eastern Europe.

5th Budapest Process Ministerial Conference

The Director General of ICMPD, Mr Peter Widermann, addressed the participants of the 5th Budapest Process Ministerial Conference: A Silk Routes Partnership for Migration, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey, on 19 April 2013. In his speech, Mr Widermann spoke about the achievements of the Budapest Process over the last 20 years and about the importance of the Istanbul Ministerial Declaration adopted at the conference.

Kick-off Conference for the Project 'EU Support to Law Enforcement'

The Director General of ICMPD, Mr Peter Widermann, addressed the participants of the Kick-off Conference for the project 'EU Support to Law Enforcement', which took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 9 October 2012. In his speech, Mr Widermann spoke about the important main goal of the project bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina's law enforcement institutions up to the level required for EU accession. He also  thanked the consortium partners for the outstanding expertise and commitment they bring to the project.
