In collaboration with the Strengthening Border Security in Ghana (SBS Ghana) project, the Management of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) organised a series of Gender Sensitisation Workshops to champion gender parity within the Service. The European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) funded SBS Ghana Project organised the first workshop in Accra for Management members in June while the second workshop was held in Aburi on August 23-24 for all eighteen (18) regional commanders of the Service.

"The Ghana Immigration Service is committed to promoting gender parity by implementing the GIS gender policy, which is awaiting the approval of the Council of the Service. This policy will advance gender equality by integrating gender interests and needs into programmes and policies at various levels within the service. We have taken steps to ensure the inclusion and participation of women in decision making at the higher level. Out of the management team of 17 members of the GIS, there are seven women. The issue of gender is a vital element in development as it is a way of looking at how social norms and power structures impact on the lives and opportunities that are available to different groups of women and men." Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, Comptroller General of Immigration.

The Management of the Ghana Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a gender strategy, which will advance gender equality by integrating gender interests and needs into policies and programmes at various levels within the Service.
