The Training Institute on Migration Capacity Partnership for the Mediterranean (MCP Med TI) held its second Governing Board meeting during a 2-day hybrid event on 18 and 19 October with the presence of representatives from ICMPD, donor and partner countries, observers, and EU agencies.
The first day was marked by the launch of the Training Institute’s own state-of-the-art Learning Management System (LMS). The fully scalable system boasts a public-facing website, trainer and student community spaces, and complete data management capabilities. The Training Institute’s partners, learners, and instructors alike are now digitally enabled and have access to a plethora of resources only one click away. The event additionally offered the perfect networking opportunity to representatives from ICMPD, partner, and donor countries who also got the chance to learn about the Training Institute’s latest achievements and developments. Prominent participants included Nina Gregory, Executive Director of the European Asylum Agency (EUAA), MCP Med TI’s technical partners, Neville Aquilina, Director-General Global Issues, International Development and Economic Affairs, from the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, representing Malta as Chair, and numerous dignitaries from Austria, Lebanon, Libya, Ireland, and The Netherlands.
19 October, Valletta/Online. On the second day, permanent members of the Governing Board consisting of Austria, Denmark, the EU (Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs), ICMPD, Lebanon, Libya, and Malta were joined by the European Union (EUAA) and Frontex, as well as observers from Germany, Greece, Hungary, and Ireland. Key-note speakers included John Busuttil, Director Global Issues from the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, Julien Simon, Head of ICMPD’s Mediterranean region and Adrian Cooper, Head of Institute. The Head of Institute highlighted in his address the key milestones achieved so far, only one year after the official launch of the Training Institute. He announced that in addition to educational accreditation, the MCP Med TI has recently received its certification to ISO standard 21001:2018 (Management systems for educational organisations) and is currently in the process of extending its licencing to cover both in-person delivery outside of Malta, and online. The development of training solutions and the mechanisms to deliver them is also well underway with 19 in-person and online courses currently being produced, 9 trainers already authorised, and the deployment of the training network within Southern Partner Countries rapidly advancing.
The meeting concluded with Governing Board members unanimously voting on the internal ticketing motion allowing the Training Institute to generate its own income and remain a completely reliable partner in the future.
The project is funded by Denmark, Malta, Austria, and by the European Union, contracted by ICMPD through the Migration Partnership Facility (MPF).
