From 29 April to 2 May 2025, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) held meetings with representatives of the Georgian diaspora in Rome, Italy. The discussions took place under the EU-funded STREAMinG Phase 2 project. The aim was to strengthen the capacities of Georgian diaspora organisations in the areas of reintegration, investment opportunities, and legal frameworks in both Italy and Georgia, with a special focus on women’s empowerment.

The event addressed a wide range of topics, including reintegration programmes in Georgia, the Georgian citizenship law and its recent amendments, migration legislation in Italy, long-term residence procedures, and investment opportunities in Georgia.

A notable highlight of the programme was its strong focus on gender equality and the empowerment of diaspora women. During the event, participants engaged in two dedicated workshops: Diaspora Women Leadership and Empowerment and Career and Business Development Support Strategies for Diaspora Women, both led by ICMPD expert Ms. Loredana Teodorescu. The programme fostered a spirit of collaboration, establishing a foundation for continuous knowledge exchange and coordinated action.

The meetings also took place with the representatives of Italian non-governmental organisation to discuss future areas of cooperation related to integration and regular migration pathways. The project team has also discussed needs and challenges of the Georgian diaspora and migrant communities in Italy with the representatives of key diaspora organisations and founder of a media channel.
