STREAMinG Project: Georgia’s Diaspora Awards 2022

Georgia’s Diaspora Awards is a high-level event aimed at the recognition of achievements of the prominent professionals of Georgian origin who have contributed to the promotion of Georgia’s positive image abroad. The event is organised in Georgia annually by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in cooperation with ICMPD. 

On 30 December 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, in close collaboration with the STREAMinG project held Georgia’s Diaspora Awards Ceremony. The event was aimed at granting the special prise to the representatives of Georgia’s Diaspora abroad, those holding significant achievements in: Science, Sports, Georgia’s Economic Development, People’s Diplomacy, Promotion of Georgian Culture and therefore creating a positive image of Georgia abroad. The gathering of skilled diaspora and holding a high-level award ceremony has an important role in contributing to the deepening of ties of Georgia’s skilled diaspora with the country of origin through recognition and appreciation, consequently, leading to the long-term  effects targeted at engagement of professional diaspora in the development processed of the home country. This year, a special award was also given to Foreign Friends of Georgia, for their contribution to popularisation of Georgia’s arts and culture in the societies of their respective countries (Japan and Ireland). All the nominees have received a copy of a gilded plate of one of the exhibits of the treasures collected and guarded by Ekvtime Takaishvili,  founder of “Historic and Ethnographic Society of Georgia” during his years of emigration to France (1921-1945).  

The awards programme also contributes to the balanced reporting and communication on migration in Georgia, promoting legal and organised mobility and preventing irregular migration.
