Libya’s Migration Technical Assistance Facility (LIBMITAF) marks the successful conclusion of its project, implemented from 2021 to 2023 with financial support from the European Union (EU) and the Swiss Confederation. Throughout the project duration, LIBMITAF supported Libyan institutions in various areas of migration governance. As the project concludes, it is time to reflect on the achievements with our Libyan partners.

The LIBMITAF project supported Libyan authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Mansour Rashid Al-Kikhia Institute for Diplomatic Studies, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, and the Attorney General. The project facilitated training sessions and workshops covering diverse subjects, conducted several studies, developed learning materials, and assisted Libyan delegations in participating in migration dialogues, such as the Rabat and Khartoum Processes.

Among the notable achievements are the Training of Trainer programmes focused on consular crisis preparedness, migration dialogues, and migration legislation. The programmes played a crucial role in equipping participants with both technical know-how and practical skills to conduct effective trainings. Furthermore, they provided the opportunity to apply acquired skills through the facilitation of training sessions. In collaboration with the Mansour Rashid Al-Kikhia Institute for Diplomatic Studies, the team developed Trainers Manuals, serving as practical guides to support the future delivery of trainings. This was employed to provide the organisation with quality training in areas of migration dialogues and to assist citizens during crises.

In an effort to address specific needs, LIBMITAF also delivered custom-tailored training and learning materials. Covering diverse topics ranging from forensics and cyber security to migration concepts and definitions, these resources were designed to meet the unique requirements of our Libyan partners.

The “Libya’s Migration Technical Assistance Facility” (LIBMITAF)  project was co-funded by the EU and the Swiss Confederation (State Secretariat for Migration and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs through the Peace and Human Rights Division).
