Moldova advances joint analysis of emerging cross-border risks with SCOP support

06.10.2026

Moldova (Republic of)

Moldovan authorities review border security developments and advance a thematic analysis of risks related to the smuggling of narcotic drugs and other illicit substances.

On 2 October 2026, Moldova’s Joint Risk Analysis Working Group (JRAWG) held its ordinary coordination meeting in Chisinau. The meeting was organised with support from the Support to Comprehensive Migration and Border Management in Moldova (SCOP) project, funded by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic and implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). It brought together risk analysis experts and representatives of the national authorities involved in integrated border management.

Participants reviewed the security situation at the State border and in the wider region. They exchanged information on emerging trends and discussed identified cross-border risks. The discussions also helped strengthen inter-agency cooperation and information exchange, both of which are central to effective risk analysis and evidence-based decision-making.

The meeting also advanced work on the JRAWG’s thematic joint risk analysis report. The report focuses on risks related to the smuggling of narcotic drugs and other illicit substances across Moldova’s borders. Participants assessed available information, discussed risk indicators and identified priorities for further analysis. The report is scheduled for completion later in 2026.

The JRAWG provides a platform for cooperation among national institutions. It enables them to develop a shared understanding of risks affecting border security and cross-border crime and to coordinate their responses.

Through the SCOP project, ICMPD continues to support Moldova’s border management authorities in developing risk analysis capacity and strengthening coordinated responses.
