ICMPD facilitated the first session of Moldova’s IBM Working Group, launching the drafting process for the 2026–2030 IBM Programme and bringing together key agencies to shape the country’s future border management strategy.

Held in Chișinău on June 12, the session convened representatives from key national institutions, including the Border Police, Customs Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other relevant agencies. The event was organized with the support of the SCOP project, which assists Moldova in aligning its border and migration management systems with EU standards.

This initial session laid the groundwork for a collaborative and strategic planning process aimed at shaping Moldova’s next IBM framework. Participants reviewed the current state of IBM implementation, shared institutional priorities, and discussed the roadmap for developing the new programme. The session also emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination and the integration of EU best practices.

To guide the process, ICMPD engaged both international and national experts who will support the Working Group throughout the drafting period. Their role includes facilitating technical discussions, ensuring coherence with the EU acquis, and tailoring the programme to Moldova’s evolving security and migration context.

The IBM Programme 2026–2030 will serve as a cornerstone of Moldova’s efforts to enhance border security, streamline cross-border cooperation, and strengthen resilience in the face of regional challenges. The new programme will also support Moldova’s progress toward EU accession. The SCOP project, funded by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, continues to play a pivotal role in this transformation.
