On 17-18 March 2021, the representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) completed a two-day training on enhancing presentation and effective communication skills organised under the EU-funded project "EU Support to Strengthening Integrated Border Management in Ukraine (EU4IBM)" implemented by ICMPD.

The training aimed to help SBGS staff to develop and conduct more effective presentations both within the service, at the interagency level, in communication with partners as well as with media and wider public. In particular, in the area of integrated border management (IBM), the new skills will help better visualize the results of IBM Strategy and Action Plan implementation, support public communication of SBGS and Interagency Work Group on IBM developments in Ukraine, present analytical products, various policy, legal and regulatory documents in the area of IBM and interagency cooperation, other achievements including the results of the ongoing reform.

The training was conducted for staff of the Department of Analytical Support, Strategic and Current Planning and delivered by an experienced certified trainer. The participants learned about modern techniques of creating constructive and convincing presentations: from intricacies of defining target audiences and choosing appropriate approaches to convey the right message up to rules of developing and delivering effective presentations in view of chosen formats, available equipment or selected venue. During the training, the participants were also given a practical task to develop a thematic presentation of their choice to reinforce their new skills.

The training became another project activity to support national IBM stakeholders in developing tools and procedures to effectively steer IBM policy development and implementation in Ukraine, in particular in the context of monitoring and control of the national IBM Strategy and Action Plan implementation.
