11 September 2022

Norway, Poland, Ukraine

Between the 5th and 7th of September 2022, under the scope of the KOMPLEKS project, ICMPD organized a study visit for representatives of Polish local authorities and project partners to Norway.

The first in a series of study visits led by ICMPD brought stakeholders of the Polish migration and asylum management system to exchange good practices with counterparts in Norway, focusing on the system of identification and support for vulnerable migrants in Norway, including practices and challenges related to unaccompanied minors, gender-related issues, sexual identity and victims of human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution. As in many countries, responsibility to identify special needs of vulnerable migrants in Norway is not centralized but integrated in registration and asylum procedures on many levels of governance and law enforcement institutions. The study visit focused on best practices of identification of vulnerable migrants during the reception, asylum and return procedure, as well as providing vulnerable migrants effective support. Visited institutions included the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration, the Norwegian National Police Immigration Service, the Norwegian Organisation for Asylum Seekers, the Chr. Michelsen Institute, the PRIO Migration Centre, as well as trips to the Ukraina HUB-Skøyen – a social meeting place for persons displaced from Ukraine and the local community.
