Summary
Kosovo’s migration management structures are coordinated by a National Coordinator on Migration (NCM) and the Government has established the Government Authority on Migration (GAM) as an inter-institutional body for migration management in 2013. In order to support the strengthening of these migration management bodies, the expected outcomes of the MIMAK are:
National Coordinator on Migration (NCM) steers migration policy development and facilitates policy implementation and monitoring;
The Government Authority on Migration (GAM) applies standardised data collection and analysis practices, grounded on WOGA principles, to draft evidence-based policy recommendations;
Population is informed on the benefits of regular migration and consequences of irregular migration.
Activities carried out under the project include improving the legal framework and structures of migration management authorities and define functions to strengthen the role of the NCM, the cooperation with GAM as well as the functioning and work of GAM.
GAM is also supported with tailor-made trainings on migration related topics and statistical programmes on data collection and analysis and assistance to improve the quality of analyses for the development of migration profiles and policies.
Further activities include supporting GAM in interlinking relevant government databases in Kosovo for setting up a migration related IT infrastructure as well as facilitating a migration survey.
GAM and NCM will be also assisted to develop and implement awareness-raising campaigns that discourage irregular migration and safeguard regular migration and mobility.
