Summary

Objective: To strengthen the operational and strategic capacity of the Directorate General for Migration Management of Turkey (DGMM) and to provide further support to the DGMM in enhancing capacities for developing strategies and operational procedures in selected migration areas.

Building upon the outcomes of the previous projects, DGMM III project envisages strengthening the capacities of DGMM in the areas of legal migration, irregular migration, return and readmission, as well as in strengthening regional cooperation capacity.

The main components and objectives of the DGMM III project are:

• To strengthen capacity of DGMM in the field of legal migration (Component I),
• To ensure support to DGMM in the establishment of a national assisted voluntary return mechanism (Component II),
• To enhance operational capacity and procedures in the field of return and readmission (Component III),
• To ensure support to DGMM in selective strategic and operational migration areas (Component IV).

The DGMMIII project, under Component I, envisages the development of a legal migration strategy for DGMM, whereby the main output will be a Strategy Paper on Legal Migration. Under Component II, the project aims at establishing a national Assisted Voluntary Return Mechanism in Turkey. Under Component III, the project focuses on strengthening capacity in the area of forced return and readmission, while Component IV strives to enhance the capacity of DGMM for elaborating regional cooperation strategies.

The beneficiary of the DGMM III project is the Directorate-General for Migration Management of Turkey and its different Departments and Working Groups under each Department, among which the Foreigners Department, the Support Services Department as well as the External Relations Department.
