Susanne Raab

Director General since 2026

Ms. Susanne Raab is a former Minister for Integration and an experienced public-sector leader with long-standing experience in integration, migration, and public administration. She holds a Doctorate in Law and a Master’s in Psychology from the University of Innsbruck.  

 

From 2020 to 2025, Ms. Raab held senior ministerial roles in the Austrian Federal Government, serving as Federal Minister for Women and Integration, and subsequently as Federal Minister for Women, Family, Integration, and Media. In 2024–2025, she also served as a Member of the National Council of the Republic of Austria for the People’s Party (ÖVP). In these positions, she managed integration and social policy initiatives and contributed to the development of the government’s integration strategies. 

 

Prior to her time as minister, she served as Legal Advisor for Asylum and Migration Affairs in Austria’s Ministry of the Interior, before being appointed Head of the Department for Integration Coordination. In 2017, she became Director General for Integration at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, leading efforts to coordinate integration policy at a national level. Susanne Raab has also held research and lecture positions in the field of civil law and asylum law at various universities. 

 

On 5 June 2025, the Steering Group of ICMPD, consisting of 21 Member States, elected Ms. Raab as the organisation’s next Director General, making her the first woman to lead ICMPD. She assumed office on 1 January 2026, bringing her extensive experience in both practical integration policy and high-level leadership to guide ICMPD’s mission.
