Temporary protection
In response to Russia’s February 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the European Union swiftly took the unprecedented step of activating the Temporary Protection Directive to provide essential assistance to those fleeing the war. Beyond the EU, other countries also put temporary measures in place to provide protection for displaced individuals. As the war continues, the question of what comes next for Ukrainians under temporary protection looms large. ICMPD’s Policy Unit is monitoring the implementation of the Directive in EU Member States and fostering international discussion on what comes next for temporary protection recipients.
