25 January 2019

On 24 January 2019 ICMPD's Director General Michael Spindelegger and the Head of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGSU), Colonel General Petro Tsygykal, signed a Cooperation Protocol between the Administration of SBGSU and ICMPD.

The Cooperation Protocol serves as a framework for future cooperation at the international and operational levels seeking to strengthen relations in all areas falling under the competences and mandate of the Parties. In particular, it will facilitate the exchange of information on migration and realization of the migration dialogues and relevant initiatives implemented jointly by the Parties.

"We are open to our European partners, and cooperation with ICMPD is at the highest level. It has been lasting for years and is crucial for us. Today is the starting point for our further achievements", stressed Mr. Tsygykal.

Mr. Spindelegger underlined: “In view of the ICMPD expertise in the Integrated Border Management and migration issues, a well-established cooperation with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is one of the priorities for ICMPD. We hope that we will soon move to the practical implementation of our cooperation as defined by the Protocol.”
